The Lion King
David anointed King of Judah
I Samuel 16:4-13
So Samuel did what the LORD said, and went to
Bethlehem. And the elders of the town
trembled at his coming, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”
5 And he said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the
LORD. Sanctify yourselves, and come with
me to the sacrifice.” Then he
consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 So it was, when they came, that he looked
at Eliab and said “Surely the LORD’S anointed is before Him!” 7 But the LORD
said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature,
because I have refused him. For the LORD
does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, the LORD looks
at the heart.”
11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?”
Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the
sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send
and bring him. For we will not sit down
till he comes here.” 12 So he sent and
brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with
bright eyes, and good-looking. And the
LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” 13 Then Samuel took the
horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the
LORD came upon David from that day forward.
So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
David persecuted and life threatened by Saul
I Samuel 19:9-10 Now the distressing spirit from the LORD
came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in hand. And David was playing music with his
hand. 10 Then Saul sought to pin David
to the wall with the spear, but he slipped away from Saul’s presence; and he
drove the spear into the wall. So David fled and escaped that night.
David flees to Gath
I Samuel 21:10-15
Then David arose and fled that day from before Saul, and
went to Achish the king of Gath. 11 And the servants of Achish said to him, “Is
this not David the king of the land? Did they not sing of him to one another in
dances, saying: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousand?” 12
Now David took these words to heart, and was very much afraid of Ashish the
king of Gath. 13 So he changed his behavior before them, and pretended madness
in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall
down on his beard.
David returns to Judah to take his rightful place as king
I Samuel 22: 5 Now when the prophet Gad said to David, “Do
not stay here in the stronghold; depart, and go to the land of Judah.” So David
departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
Simba: Nala
?
?
Simba: Is it really you?
Nala: Who are you?
Simba: It’s me. Simba
Nala: Simba?? WHOA!
WHO ARE YOU?
What a profound question in life.
Simba had an identity crisis. He wasn’t fulfilling his purpose in life. His purpose in life and his destiny was to be
king.
The story starts out great and glorious:
Simba is an eager young prince who just can’t wait to be
king. He is very prideful and
naive.
He doesn’t even realize that his own Uncle Scar has tried to
get him killed twice.
The foreshadowing event happens when Simba is speaking
with Mufasa about whether he would always be there for him and Mufasa tells him
about the circle of life.
How the great kings of the past look down on us from the
stars; foretelling his own eventual death.
Simba has no idea that it will happen within a few days, he
thinks it is many years down the road.
It ends up happening because Scar uses Simba as bait and
then causes a stampede in which Simba gets caught up in.
His father Mufasa comes to rescue him and does so
successfully, but as he is trying to save himself he asks his brother for help.
His brother Scar instead digs his claws into his paws and
releases violently sending Mufasa falling to his death.
Simba goes to try and wake his father up, but unable to do
so he begins to cry for help.
No real “help” came, only his Uncle Scar who deceives him
into believing that he killed his father.
This causes Simba to become frightened as to what would
happen to him if everyone found out what he had done. Scar tells him to “run away and never return”
Simba does just that he begins to run and run and run away
from his home and future kingdom in Pride Rock because he is afraid of the
consequences if everyone found out that he was the cause for Mufasa’s death.
He runs into two friends Timone and Pumba who teach him a
new philosophy in life “Hukuna Matata” they teach him that he doesn’t have to
face or worry about his past and that he can live a worry-free life. They teach him that he has to put his past
behind him instead of facing it.
It isn’t until Nala his old childhood friend happens to run
into him that he has to face his past.
She sees him and he knows her name, but she doesn’t recognize him
because he was alleged to be dead.
She asks the profound question “Who are you?”
She also asks him “What are you doing here?”
She is the first person to tell him that he has to come back
and wait until your mother hears about this.
But all he could think about was running from his past, which was based
off of the lie that he was responsible for Mufasa’s death.
She reminds him that none of that matters now and that He is
the rightful king since he is alive.
He is blinded by his past though and thinks that Scar told
everyone the lie that he killed his father, so he is reluctant to go back.
Immediately Simba has to come to terms with who he is now
and who he was destined to be.
He denies that he is the king and declares that his uncle is
the king.
Sometimes bad things happen and there’s nothing you can do
about it. Hakuna Matata
She lets him know that it is his responsibility to go back
to Pride Rock and that he is the rightful king.
He has a conversation with himself and his father blaming
himself for his death.
Then Simba asks Rafiki who are you? And Rafiki says the question is Whooo... are
you?
I thought I knew now I am not so sure
Well I know who you are.. starting singing crazy song
Enough already what’s that supposed to mean anyway?
It means you are a baboon and I am not.
I think...you’re a little confused.
Wrong! I’m not the one who’s confused: you don’t even know
who you are.
Oh and I supposed you do?
Sure do; You’re Mufasa’s boy..... Bye!
Father
Simba, you have forgotten me.
No. How could I?
You have forgotten who you are, and so have forgotten
me. Look inside yourself Simba. You are more than what you have become. You must take your place in the circle of life.
How can I go back?
I’m not who I used to be.
Remember who you are, You are my son, and the one true king.
He finally decides to return and to face his past, his Uncle
Scar, and take his rightful place as king.
